Elizabeth Howard, Vice-President of Youth and Young Adult Services, Northwestern University Settlement House, will be the speaker. NUSH is one of our local philanthropies and relates to AXD’s national philanthropy, Kindly Hearts, which focuses on helping children.

CNS will give gifts to a family from NUSH as in past years. For those interested in participating, the gift assignments will be distributed. All interested in joining the cookie exchange for December, contact Suzanne..

This book, West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge, is based on the true story of the cross-country road trip that America’s first giraffes took in 1938. Chicago North Shore will meet via “Zoom” in February. Alpha Xi Delta has adopted the Kindly Hearts Campaign as its National Philanthropy for 2021-2022. Chapters and Associations choose charities in their areas as their philanthropies. CNS continues to support Northwestern University Settlement House, which provides services for children and their families in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood. Yasmin Rodriguez, AmeriCorps Project YES!, Director, & Food Pantry and Support Services Director, will speak about the variety of services and programs currently offered at NUSH..

December 8, 2021 – Zoom Holiday Celebration

While missing the person-to person sisterhood, we will give our holiday schedules a little wiggle room with eliminating travel to the meeting. Please remember Marsha’s beautiful home in past years!! There will be games and time to share holiday plans.

For those participating in donating gifts for the Northwestern University Settlement House family that was chosen for CNS, the wrapped gifts are due at Holly’s house on Monday, December 6. If you have the gift/s but don’t have time to wrap, please take them to Holly’s anyway. A couple of sisters have volunteered to help Holly with any final wrapping and packing. The delicious and popular pecans are back! Carla is our fundraising leader coordinating pecan sales. $12 for 16 oz. bag of mammoth pecans and $10 for 12 oz. of chocolate covered pecans. We are NOT having Fannie May as a fundraiser this year.

Have you always wanted to know about your family’s “tree”? Julie will give tips and guidance for this project to determine your ancestry.

We will be selling Georgia pecans again this year! Get your order in to have the large and delicious pecans for holiday season baking (and eating)! Please note that we’re taking a break from selling Fannie May candy for 2021.

Breaking News! No National Philanthropy at this time

Alpha Xi Delta announces a formal end to the Fraternity’s official focus on autism and its partnership with Autism Speaks. Other philanthropic partners will be researched.  For now Alpha Xi Delta will initiate the Kindly Hearts Campaign (KHC), a year of service and fundraising to support our communities in some of the areas most directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The year will feature Alpha Xi Delta’s Wellbeing Program.  It is from Wellbeing, The Five Essential Elements” by T. Rath and J. Harter.  Traditionally, Chicago North Shore starts its year with a salad supper, but not THIS year! It will be a Virtual Feast for social purposes; and when you choose your salad, consider your Physical Wellbeing! It is said that “Every hour of Social Time keeps stress away.”

Share joys and concerns on the ZOOM meeting and find out how sisters have weathered COVID-19 the past few months. Members have been emailed instructions to join the meeting.

The governor of Illinois has issued a “Shelter-in-Place” order until April 30, 2020, during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The area-wide Founders’ Day event scheduled for April 25, 2020, has been POSTPONED and RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.

The Chicago North Shore Alumnae Panhellenic Benefit scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2020, has been CANCELLED but welcomes ticket purchases as donations. The donations will be used for the scholarships, which would have been awarded at the benefit. There will be some raffle items available, also. Check back here for the latest on how you can help!

December 11 is also the deadline for the gifts for our Northwestern Settlement House family (for those who signed up in November).     Marsha is our Hostess, and Carla is our Co-hostess.

Entertainment Books are for sale at $25 each.  Buy the book from Karen or order online. There is an app for your phone so the coupons will always be handy!  Chicago North Shore makes a profit of $5 per book.

Chicago North Shore was chartered as an Alumnae Chapter on July 14, 1969, becoming an Alumnae Association in 1993 as directed by the national fraternity.
